I had the pleasure recently of teaching a couple of courses (VB.NET and SQL Server Reporting Services) to a group of software developers up at Tabubil, Papua New Guinea. (Ok Tedi Mine)
It was a great trip to an interesting place.
Tabubil is one of the wettest places on the planet, getting about 8 metres of rain annually! While I was there everyone was saying how dry it was this year. But I didn't understand what they were talking about as it was bucketing down every day!
Anyway the students were great. I found them to be an extremely bright and motivated bunch.
The two Mondays that I was there I ran with the local Hash House Harriers (in the pouring rain of course!) and had the customary down downs afterwards.
They have this distinct handshake in Tabubil that has apparently been used amongst the locals for some time. It is difficult to describe, but basically you use your index finger and middle finger to grab the index finger of the other person. Each person then pulls their hand quickly back to make a loud snap! They only do this in Tabubil and nowhere else in PNG. It is the coolest thing.
